ABOUT THE FUND
What is this fund?
A permanent scholarship fund created by Hickory High alumni at the North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF) to support graduating seniors and honor educators who have made a lasting impact.
What is the long-term vision?
The Fund is designed to grow over time, support Hickory High students, and create a lasting connection among alumni, teachers, and future generations.
Why NCCF?
The North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF) provides nonprofit status, tax deductibility, investment management, and full administration.
SCHOLARSHIPS
What can scholarships be used for?

4-year colleges or universities

Technical, trade, or vocational schools
Funds are paid directly to the school:

4-year: tuition, books, and possibly living expenses

When do scholarships begin?
The first scholarship will be awarded in Spring 2027, with awards continuing annually as the Fund grows.
How are recipients selected?
A local committee of 3–5 qualified individuals reviews applications and recommends scholarship recipients. The North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF) oversees the selection process, including committee appointments, application administration, and final award approval.

Are donations tax-deductible?
Yes, through NCCF.

How does it work?

Donations go to NCCF and are immediately tax-deductible.

Scholarships are awarded annually from the Fund’s available distributions, subject to NCCF’s spending policies.
Who is responsible for what?
Three-part partnership:

NCCF: Fund management, scholarship administration, compliance oversight, and award distribution.

Alumni volunteers: Fund promotion, alumni outreach, donor engagement, and participation in the scholarship selection process.

Hickory High School: Local coordination, student outreach, and assistance with the scholarship application process, with Sandi Fotheringham serving as liaison.
